Incontinence
Urinary incontinence is a condition that impacts many people’s lives. When you have incontinence, you may experience bladder control issues and leak urine. This leakage is often uncontrollable and can negatively impact your life.
Your urinary system is made up of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. These parts do several jobs. They filter, store, and remove waste from your body. Your kidneys are the filters of your body. Waste products are removed from your blood by the kidneys, creating urine. The urine then moves down through two thin tubes called the ureters. The ureters connect to the bladder, where the urine will collect until it’s time to leave the body. Your bladder is like a storage tank — once the bladder is full, the brain sends a signal that it’s time to urinate. Urine then leaves the bladder when a muscle opens up (sphincter), allowing the urine to flow freely out of the body through the urethra.
When this system is working smoothly, you usually have time to get to a bathroom before needing to urinate and you don’t experience any leakage of urine. Urinary incontinence can happen when these parts don’t operate as they should. This can happen for many different reasons throughout your life.
WHAT?
Urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine.
It means a person urinates when they do not want to. Control over the urinary sphincter is either lost or weakened.

WHO?
Urinary incontinence is more common among women than men.
The chances of it happening increase with age, Obesity, and smoking are both risk factors for urinary incontinence.

WHICH?
Incontinence can happen for many reasons, following different mechanisms. Keep in mind that boundaries between types of incontinence are often not clear, and different mechanisms are arguably found to be combined.
What are the different types of incontinence?
There are several different types of incontinence. These types have different causes, characteristics, and triggers for urine leakage. Knowing the type of incontinence is often an important part of the diagnosis and treatment plan for incontinence.

Urge incontinence
This type of incontinence is characterized by an intense need to urinate right away.
Often, this happens too quickly for you to make it to a toilet and you end up leaking urine.
Stress incontinence
Stress incontinence occurs when urine leaks as pressure is put on the bladder, such as during exercise, coughing, sneezing, laughing, or lifting heavy objects.
Overflow incontinence
Overflow incontinence happens when small amounts of urine leak from a bladder that is always full. Diabetes and spinal cord injuries can also cause this type of incontinence.
Mixed incontinence
This type of incontinence is a combination of several problems that all lead to leakage issues.
OUR SOLUTIONS FOR INCONTINENCE
When it comes to incontinence, there’s nothing more important than understanding the products. There are many different kinds, and one is designed to handle the specific needs of each individual. Knowing these differences will help you choose the right product for you.
DIAPERS (BRIEFS)
Like Protective Underwear, adult briefs are wearable protection made to fit underneath clothing. They have one of the largest polymer layers and provide more area coverage than other absorbent products.
UNDERWEAR
Protective Underwear, also known as “pull-ons,” are slightly larger products that can replace underwear and fit underneath clothing. The polymer layer is bigger than in Bladder Control Pads, providing both more absorbency and a larger area of protection.
BOOSTER PADS
Booster Pads are a supplemental product designed to be used with another absorbent product. As the name suggests, they “boost” absorbency by providing an extra layer of protection.
MALE GUARDS
Male Guards are bladder control pads specifically designed for men. They function just like a regular pad, except that one end is tapered to better accommodate male needs.
PADS
Pads are thin, absorbent pads designed to protect against lighter outputs of urine. They’re made with a layer of special polymer that absorbs liquid and locks it away, keeping the skin clean and dry.
WIPES AND WASHCLOTHS
Disposable washcloths and wipes are a convenient and sanitary way to maintain good hygiene, incontinence wipes are specially formulated to sanitize while simultaneously protecting the skin from moisture and dryness.
UNDERPADS
Underpads are soft, thin sheets of absorbent materials attached to a waterproof barrier on one side. They are designed to protect surfaces from leakage during the changing of an incontinence product.
CATHETERS AND CLAMPS
External Catheters, also known as condom catheters, are a unique incontinence product in that they don’t work by absorbing liquid. Instead, they collect urine into a drainage or collection bag.
CREAMS AND WASHES
These caring creams act as a protective layer on the skin and can be applied as often as needed, even if the skin is showing early signs of redness, is irritated, or is on the verge of a breakdown.
