A Nasal Cannula is a long tube, generally 4 or 7 feet that carries the oxygen to 2 small nasal prongs. The prongs of the nasal cannula insert into the nostrils of the nose. These prongs can be curved and the curve of the prongs should follow the natural curve of the nostrils. The oxygen then flows from these prongs into the nose. You should always have at least one replacement cannula at all times.

  • Nasal Cannulas should be changed every 2 weeks or sooner if damaged, visibly soiled or otherwise not functioning optimally

Oxygen Tubing is an extension tubing that connects to a nasal cannula or mask. This tubing comes in multiple lengths. The total tubing should not exceed 50 feet with a stationary concentrator. Please reach out to your oxygen provider for each safe distance length for a portable oxygen concentrator. You should always have at least one replacement tubing at all times.

  • This tubing should be changed every 3 months or sooner if damaged, visibly soiled, or otherwise not functioning optimally

Oxymask is a single mask that can be used at various flow rates and oxygen titrations. This can only be used with continuous flows and not with pulse-dose portable oxygen concentrators. You should always have at least one replacement mask at all times.

  • This mask should be changed every 3 weeks or sooner if damaged, visibly soiled, or otherwise not functioning optimally

Oxygen Connectors are used to connect oxygen tubing to a nasal cannula or mask. Oxygen connectors come in different varieties. Make sure you check with your healthcare provider to ensure your connector is safe for your modality and flow rate. You should always have at least one replacement connector at all times.

  • Connectors should be changed every 6 months or sooner if damaged, visibly soiled, or otherwise not functioning optimally

Ez Wraps are foam ear cushions that help protect ears from developing soreness. You should always have at least one replacement wrap at all times.

  • Wraps should be changed every two weeks with your cannula or sooner if damaged, visibly soiled, or otherwise not functioning optimally

Flow Connectors sometimes referred to as “trees” or “nipples” are required to connect some stationary concentrators to the oxygen tubing. These come in many colours and you should always have a spare flow connector.

  • These should be changed every 6 months or sooner if damaged, visibly soiled, or otherwise not functioning optimally

Humidifier Bottles can be used for flows over 5 LPM continuously on a stationary concentrator.  The humidifier bottle is filled with distilled water to the max fill line. Humidifier bottles are easily cross-threaded when the lid is screwed on the unit- be careful to not cross-thread the lid. The bottle must be cleaned regularly and fresh distilled water daily. You should always have at least one replacement bottle at all times.

  • The bottle should be changed every 3 months or sooner if damaged, visibly soiled, or otherwise not functioning optimally

Water Traps are designed to collect condensation that can form in oxygen tubing. This condensation occurs when a humidifier bottle is used and the air outside the tubing is colder than inside the tubing. Water traps can be stepped on and are easily broken. You should always have at least one replacement water trap at all times.

  • The trap should be changed every 3 months sooner if damaged, visibly soiled, or otherwise not functioning optimally
